Problems with Xbox 360

rrodHere are the most common problems with Xbox 360. If you own an Xbox 360, it will be hard to avoid these because for most of the time, it’s not under your control. It has to do with when and where it was assembled and the manufacturer’s warranty on whether or not it will be covered.

Three Flashing Red Lights

The three flashing red lights are the most common issue that Xbox gamers see. It is also the most dreaded. Read more about the three flashing red lights here. Or if you are looking for a repair guide to fix your Xbox in under an hour, check out this Xbox repair guide.

Xbox 360 Overheating

When you see 2 flashing lights it means that your Xbox is getting too hot. You don’t want the console overheating and damaging the inside parts, so take these steps when you get the 2 flashing lights:

1. Turn off your Xbox 360 console right away
2. Unplug the power supply from the Xbox
3. (Optional) Unplug it from the wall outlet
4. Wait for at least 5 minutes, the longer the better. Up to 30 minutes to an hour or two.
5. Plug back in the power supply (and into the wall outlet if you unplugged it)
6. Turn the console back on.

What happens when the system overheats is the way the chips were soldered on in the Xbox. When the solder gets exposed to elevated temperatures for a long period of time, usually a few hours, the material becomes brittle and can damage your Xbox 360.

To prevent your Xbox from overheating, make sure that it gets plenty of air. Some people put their Xbox next to the TV which can get hot and also in a closed cabinet. The Xbox needs to be well ventilated so that it can grab air to keep it cool.

Do not place your Xbox 360 on a carpet or thick rug. It tends to get hotter that way. Keep it on a hard material like hardwood floors or a wood book shelf or TV stand.

Xbox 360 Scratched Discs

Gamers complained about discs being scratched because they weren’t held in place inside the trays. Obviously, you don’t want to pick up the Xbox and start shaking it while the disc is spinning or the hard drive is spinning. The scratched disc phenomena has only been reported by a few gamers and Microsoft says that they can’t replicate it.

Here’s a quick tip that you can use. Put a thin layer of toothpaste on the side of the scratched disc. Then let it dry and wipe with a wet towel and then use Windex to clean the CD once again. Be sure to only do this 2 or 3 times because the more you do it, the more you can damage the disc.
